They are geneticists, virologists, software developers, polymer chemists, applied mathematicians and industrial engineers, just to name a few.

Van Reenen’s research interests are in indoor environment quality with a focus on acoustics, particularly in healthcare and education settings, the design and maintenance of healthcare facilities, and green building design application.
Buhle Mkhize’s interests include architecture and design and development of reliable solutions that employ software engineering principles in the delivery of services to customers. His current focus is on the use of IoT platforms as an enabler for delivering solutions in different domains, and the use of lightweight communications protocols and data compaction when integrating IoT platforms with resource-constrained devices and sensors over different types of networks.
De Villiers has extensive experience in battery types and their application for infantry soldiers. The work includes the use of field-based sensors for battery monitoring and maintenance based on Internet of Things concepts.
Sethole is a senior researcher in biometrics at the CSIR. He has developed algorithms for fingerprint feature extraction, matching and classification.
