Van Eden’s research focuses on artificial intelligence, specifically in the application of machine learning algorithms on datasets and robotics.

Van Eden holds a BEng degree from Stellenbosch University and an MEng degree from the University of Pretoria. She joined the CSIR in 2013 and plays a leading role in the industrial robotics group, analysing big data for various industries. She has a passion for robotics and built applications for smart systems. Van Eden has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed papers, most recently on particle identification employing semi-automated image processing in experimental scanning electron microscope images.
