The final countdown is underway, and all roads lead to this year’s Science Forum South Africa 2024 at the CSIR International Convention Centre in Pretoria. Join us as we plan to celebrate the CSIR’s impactful science, technology and innovation contributions at South Africa’s premier scientific platform. The CSIR will be participating as one of 86 exhibitors and aims to make a favourable impression on visitors with various technologies and capabilities on display to showcase how the organisation’s research is shaping future science and innovation.

Coupled with vibrant visual illustrations and technological prototypes, the CSIR’s interactive show table will be embellished with prototype displays that include the wheeled Voyager robot; interactive smartphone tablets to aid proficiency in isiZulu on the Ngiyaqonda mobile app; promoting the ins and outs of the Learning Factory’s contribution towards opportunities provided by the fourth industrial revolution; and the chance to get behind the microscope and experience a new testing platform that screens the effectiveness of cancer drugs.

The exhibition launch will take place on Tuesday, 3 December 2024, with the opening address by Department of Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Dr Blade Nzimande. For the remainder of the week, delegates will be engrossed with a compelling programme of matters interrelated to science, technology and innovation.

The CSIR will participate in a panel discussion on initiatives for biomanufacturing technology development and workforce initiatives aligned with the National System of Innovation.

Eager to attract the public’s interest in how CSIR’s science is serving humanity, the following researchers will be participating:

  • Dr Mutsa Takwunda
  • Dr Laurette Marais
  • Ilana Wilken
  • Dr Phumuzile Dube
  • Mihlali Tapi
  • Thapelo Pechu
  • Sthembiso Mkhwanazi
  • Dr Bernice Monchusi
  • Dr Karen Calteaux

The Science Forum serves as a valuable forum to rub shoulders with key stakeholders, connect with diverse audiences and create a chance for businesses in the National System of Innovation to grow.

“As the organising team, we hope to see you. Come and have a look and feel of the scientific discoveries CSIR researchers are using to solve and address pressing societal problems,” says events practitioner Kediemetse Senokwane. “Find us at stand EH18 from 4 to 6 December 2024.”

The CSIR looks forward to joining the scientific community, connecting with brilliant minds and exchanging ideas that will ignite conversations about science and innovation for humankind.
