The CSIR-hosted Southern African Biomanufacturing Training Hub is pleased to announce the commencement of a course titled: A process chemists toolkit: Modern approaches to pharmaceutical production, scheduled to start on Monday, 9 November 2026.

The course provides foundational training in continuous manufacturing for drug substance production, focusing on small molecule active pharmaceutical ingredients.

The CSIR-hosted Southern African Biomanufacturing Training Hub is pleased to announce the commencement of a course titled: High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) in Biomanufacturing: Fundamentals and Practical Applications, scheduled to start on 2 November 2026 at the CSIR Pretoria campus and 23 November 2026 at the CSIR Durban campus. 

The course aims to provide participants with a solid theoretical and practical understanding of the HPLC and its application in biomanufacturing.

The deadline for Pretoria campus applications is Monday, 12 October 2026 and the deadline for Durban campus applications is Thursday, 15 October 2026.

The grant scheme focuses on promoting laser and laser applications-related research on the African continent, with the purpose of stimulating and growing laser research programmes within the continent. The aim of this programme is to establish research capabilities and to support human capacity building in laser and laser-based application sciences. The fund will allow research collaborations and student/researcher exchanges for participating institutes. Additionally, it provides limited support for consumables required for research projects. The collaborations supported under this grant scheme should be between a South African research team and an African research team outside the borders of South Africa.

Closing date for applications is Friday, 23 October 2026

The CSIR would like to invite researchers employed at public universities and universities of technology in South Africa to participate and apply for funding to support their laser-related research programmes in the 2027/2028 financial and academic years. This call allows researchers the opportunity to submit a multi-year project proposal, with a maximum duration of three years. Contracting with successful proposers will be done on an annual basis, with continued funding after year one of the project subject to the submission and approval of an annual progress report. For grant holders with an approved multi-year project, there is no requirement to re-apply. A detailed progress report, however, is required to ensure continuation of the project.

The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), through its Advanced Materials and Manufacturing (AMM) impact area within the CSIR Future Production: Manufacturing cluster, invites Expressions of Interest from small, medium and micro-sized enterprises (SMMEs), as well as established industries, to engage in manufacturing activities related to product development and/or prototyping based on Metal Injection Moulding (MIM) technology.

The African Laser Centre (ALC) initiative at the CSIR is calling for application South African and African researchers with active collaborations in lasers and laser-related applications needing financial support for knowledge exchange visits for their students in the 2026 academic year. The aim is to facilitate targeted knowledge and technology transfer needs.

The CSIR Advanced Casting Technologies research group hereby invites eligible organisations, foundries, engineering companies, technology providers, and manufacturing enterprises to submit Expressions of Interest (EoIs) to participate in collaborative product design and development initiatives for castings and related manufactured components. The purpose of this document is to outline the framework, eligibility requirements, evaluation criteria and submission procedures for identifying organisations with capabilities and interest in participating in advanced casting product development programmes.
