Dr Anjo Theron
Theron has expertise in the fields of molecular biology, cell culturing, bio-assay development and drug discovery. Her research interest is physiology, biochemistry and pharmacology of malaria parasites. She is also interested in drug discovery for potential transmission blocking agents against malaria.
Full Profile
Theron completed her PhD on biochemical aspects of tuberculosis at the Stellenbosch University. Her research work has been presented at local and international conferences and shared in a number of publications. Her expertise includes molecular biology, cell culturing, bio-assay development and drug discovery. Her research interest is in the physiology, biochemistry and pharmacology of malaria parasites, particularly the biochemical distinctions between the malaria parasite and the human host, which are exploitable for the design of novel antimalarial transmission blocking drugs.
Theron’s research work contributes to the interplay between malaria control and elimination by focusing on both the pathogenic and transmission forms of the parasite to ensure sustainability in malaria control and elimination. Theron is an expert in malaria parasite biology in Africa.
