Dr Shivani Goolab

CSIR postdoctoral researcher

Goolab’s area of interest is innovative therapeutics in gene therapy aimed at preventing diseases and establishing disease models designed to improve human health.

Full Profile

Goolab is a CSIR postdoctoral researcher in bioengineering and integrative genomics. She is currently working on developing a streamlined CRISPR gene-editing pipeline to generate isogenic stem cell models to assess genetic variation in the African population attributing to adverse drug reactions.

Her PhD in veterinary science, undertaken while at the CSIR, involved the development of a safer, recombinant vaccine using microbial surface display to prevent brucellosis infection in cattle. Prior to this, she has worked in the department of Medical Virology, University of Pretoria that conducted diagnosis of zoonotic diseases and assessed the specificity of a diagnostic kit.

Expertise: Molecular biology; Understanding and manipulating biological systems (microbial and mammalian systems); Protein Chemistry (protein production, isolation and localisation using immunofluorescence microscopy); Genome engineering.
