Lochner is an environmental assessment practitioner at the CSIR with over 30 years of experience in a wide range of environmental assessment and management studies. His experience is in the renewable energy, electrical grid infrastructure, desalination and industrial and port development sectors. He has been closely involved in the research and application of strategic environmental assessment (SEA) in South Africa and in using the outcomes of SEAs to inform legislative reform
