Tobias van Reenen is a senior researcher at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research. He holds a Higher Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (Design) and specialises in ventilation and indoor environmental quality.

Van Reneen has extensive experience in the design and construction of pharmaceutical, cleanroom and high-level bio-containment facilities. This includes laboratories, operating theatres, intensive care units and isolation ward ventilation designs. Van Reneen currently convenes several standards working groups in developing multiple South African Bureau of Standards (SABS). He has a tangential interest in developing and mapping climatic indices for building energy consumptions, efficiency and passive building design.
