The Department of Science and Innovation (DSI) and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) would like to invite students, researchers, academia and industry practitioners to attend the inaugural Foundational Digital Capabilities Research (FDCR) Seminar 2023, which will be held at the CSIR International Convention Centre (ICC) in Pretoria, South Africa on Monday, 30 October 2023.

The purpose of the seminar is to provide a platform where students, researchers, academia and industry practitioners can formulate collaborative research networks, share their research interests, experiences and resources, as well as contribute their supervisory and mentorship expertise towards building and advancing digital fourth industrial revolution-related research and development skills in South Africa. Delegates will be provided with an overview of the foundational digital capabilities research being undertaken under the FDCR platform; a research programme funded by the DSI. The FDCR platform is a flagship programme of the DSI. The platform facilitates research, development and innovation across the whole value chain in the field of digital transformation.

• The seminar will cover the following themes:
• Artificial intelligence, robotics and cybernetics;
• Cloud computing, networking and advanced internet of things;
• Blockchain and cybersecurity;
• Augmented/virtual/mixed reality; and
• Modelling and simulation.
