Johakimu holds an MSc (Chemical Engineering) from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. His area of interest are research and technical support projects aimed at enhancing the sustainability and competitiveness of the pulp and paper industry. This includes techno-economic analysis and implementation, cost optimisation, improving energy efficiency, improving product quality, waste beneficiation, and new biomaterial-based materials and resource and energy efficiency.
