Tsekoa is a protein biochemist with a focus on developing production processes for biologics manufacture at bench and pilot scale.

He is qualified at doctoral level in applied biotechnology. He completed his postdoctoral training in infectious disease and molecular medicine at the University of Cape Town prior to joining the CSIR.

His expertise are in the recombinant production of biologics, including reagent proteins and vaccines, as well as originator and biosimilar antibodies. In recent years Tsekoa’s research and development (R&D) focus has been on developing production processes for biologics manufacture at bench and pilot scale. He has expert knowledge of downstream processing (including filtration and chromatography) as applied to biomanufacturing development at these scales.

Tsekoa pursues an applied research programme in the combined fields of biochemistry, enzymology and structural biology, and their application to biomanufacturing problems. His R&D track record includes publications in peer-reviewed journals, technology disclosures and technology demonstrators. He trains students and serves as reviewer, examiner and moderator for various local and international institutions.
