The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is excited to announce that senior researcher and biological oceanographer, Dr Tommy Ryan-Keogh, has been confirmed as a speaker at TEDx Johannesburg for its #JoinTheCountdown event, which will be taking place on Thursday, 4 May 2023.
Ryan-Keogh’s talk, ”A changing Southern Ocean: the impact if climate change” will contribute towards the dialogue and action on climate change and will showcase how the CSIR is contributing towards global research efforts on the impact of climate change in Antarctica and the Southern Ocean.
In just 12 minutes, Ryan-Keogh will share his research findings, which showed that the natural carbon cycle in the Southern Ocean is being impacted and that it could be causing even more harmful climate impacts. These findings were recently published in the top-rated journal Science under the title: Multidecadal trend of increasing iron stress in Southern Ocean phytoplankton.
Ryan-Keogh will be sharing the stage with notable and influential climate change and environmental experts, enthusiasts and leaders in climatology, journalism, fashion, law, horticulture, fine arts, writing, activism, poetry, and culture.
We encourage you all to show your support and get involved by using #JoinTheCountdown #ClimateChange and #TeamCSIR on all social media platforms. Secure your seat by purchasing your ticket for the TEDxJohannesburg Countdown event.
