This multidisciplinary science, engineering and technology base is made up of individuals who are highly specialised in their respective fields. They are geneticists, virologists, software developers, polymer chemists, applied mathematicians and industrial engineers, just to name a few.

Van Zyl specialises in aeroelasticity and unsteady aerodynamics.
Dr Steenkamp’s research interests lie in biocatalysis and taking technologies in this domain from ideas to piloting.
Kwezi’s main research interests are in the combined fields of applied biochemistry and enzymology, structural biology and in recombinant production of enzymes for industrial applications, including reagent enzymes for use as molecular biology tools. Kwezi’s research interests also include the production of vaccines, antibodies and biosimilars through the use of plant-based expression systems.
Ndlela’s research interests include environmental microbiology, bioremediation, algal research and eco-toxicity. Water and health related microbiology is part of her research niche within the CSIR.
