The CSIR performs research and development, as well as testing and evaluation, manufacturing, qualification, commissioning as well as life-cycle maintenance and support of integrated and maritime special operations technology systems and operational capabilities. Aside from supporting the South African Special Forces, the team works closely with the SA Navy and the Institute for Maritime Technology. Undertakings include optimising and enhancing the efficiency of assets such as surface craft and submarines. Increasingly, the CSIR is involved in counter piracy operations through the exploitation of various technologies.
