Musa Mashaba

Mashaba’s interests include but are not limited to, digital transformation in the mining industry, technology adoption, systems engineering for digital and automation systems, and the development of appropriate digital and automation systems for the mining industry.

Full Profile

Mashaba holds an MSc and BSc in electrical engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand and is a registered Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA). In 2022, he joined the CSIR Future Production: Mining cluster as a senior systems engineer focusing on the development, project management and technical leadership of appropriate digital and automation solutions, such as Trackless Mobile Machinery Collision Prevention Digital Twin, to improve safety and productivity in mining. He also leads the communication network assessment project and provides technical support on the decarbonisation project in the mining cluster. Mashaba has over 10 years of experience in developing, validating, commissioning and providing life-cycle support for operational technologies and safety-critical systems in the railway and mining industry. His expertise also extends to electromagnetic interference and compliance testing.
