National Press Club and CSIR Host Event to Mark World Radio Day 2025 themed Radio and Climate Change
Tomorrow, 13 February 2025, the National Press Club, in collaboration with the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), will join the global community in commemorating World Radio Day.
The event, which is also supported by the Midtown Group and the Tim Modise Foundation, will be held under the theme of "Radio and Climate Change."

World Radio Day was proclaimed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2011. As the global community continues its efforts to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change, this event will explore the pivotal role of radio in raising awareness and driving collective action towards environmental sustainability. Radio, as a powerful medium, has the unique ability to reach diverse audiences and disseminate crucial information on climate-related issues.
The celebration will include a panel discussion on climate change and how radio and media in general can play their role.
The debate will be moderated by renowned radio and television talk show host, Tim Modise, with a panel comprising:
- Mr. Blessing Manale, Act Executive Director: Presidential Climate Change Commission.
- Suzanne Paxton, Radio Journalist; Radiosondergrense (RSG).
- Dr Katlego Ncongwane, Snr Manager: R&D; SA Weather Service.
- Dr Neville Sweijd, Programme Manager: Alliance for Collaboration on Climate and Earth System Science; CSIR.
- Dr Brian Mantlana, Manager: Holistic Climate Change; CSIR.
- Ms Sindisiwe Mashele, Director: GHG Inventory and Systems, Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment.
