South Africa has committed to ensuring access to water and sanitation for all, as outlined in Sustainable Development Goal 6. Additionally, Chapter 2 of the Constitution of South Africa, 1996 recognises the right of access to sufficient water of adequate quality as being essential to a good quality of life. To give effect to this right, the Water Services Act, 1997 (Act 108 of 1997) mandates municipalities to provide water to communities within their respective jurisdictions.
As part of raising awareness about the scourge on cyber-related crimes, you are invited to a hybrid information session titled: “Cybercrime and South Africa: An Introspective Look” on Tuesday, 4 April 2023 virtually and at the CSIR, Pretoria campus.
The era of digitalisation has made the lives of South African citizens and businesses easier, however, it has equally led to a significant increase in cybercrimes which has put national government institutions, large corporations, small and medium sized businesses, and ordinary South Africans at risk of financial and data loss, identity theft and cyber extortion.
Proposals for grant funding are hereby invited for the following two separate and independent elements within the RISP:
A. Regional Innovation Networking Platforms aimed at establishing networking platforms to bring together research, development and innovation communities, technology SMMEs, industry and government.
B. Feasibility study or business plan support for innovation enabling mechanisms such as: a. Science and Technology Parks, Techno Parks, Innovation Hubs, Tech Hubs or other similar concepts. b. Other innovation enabling mechanisms and initiatives.

The theme for 2023 is “Accelerating Change”, and seeks to inform policy and decision-makers, inside and outside the water community, how improvements in water resources management as well as access to water supply and sanitation services, are essential to overcoming poverty and addressing various other social and economic inequities.
The CSIR Principal and Chief Researchers’ Ceremony marks a critical milestone for both the CSIR and the country. Fifteen researchers have been promoted to principal researcher level, while three have been promoted to chief researcher level. These promotions showcase the strengthening of the national RD&I capability and capacity in various fields, such as health, manufacturing, biotechnology, nanotechnology and mechanical engineering.
This year, from 13 to 15 February 2023, the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study hosted 38 scholars, project leaders, associated researchers and institutional partners who supported and facilitated the robust exchange of ideas and knowledge on laser science and technology.
The conference is limited to ALC-associated researchers and students and aims to encourage interaction between grant holders and students.
In December 2022, the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), through its Information and Cybersecurity Research Centre, was inducted into the Charter of Trust (CoT) as an Associated Partner.
The CSIR is the first organisation in Africa to be admitted into the CoT’s Associated Partner Forum (APF).
The CSIR was nominated into the CoT by Siemens AG. The nomination was followed by the CSIR giving presentations to the CoT Management Forum and, ultimately, the unanimous approval of the CSIR’s nomination.
2023 RAPDASA-RobMech-PRASA-CoSAAMI conference
The 2023 Rapid Product Development Association of South Africa (RAPDASA), the Robotics and Mechatronics (RobMech), the Pattern Recognition Association of South Africa (PRASA), and the Conference of South African Advanced Materials Initiative (CoSAAMI) invites researchers, academics, and industry professionals to submit high-quality original research papers on topics related to robotics, automation, mechatronics, control systems and materials science.
