Mapiravana obtained a PhD in materials engineering from the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom (UK). He joined the CSIR in 2008 and is a principal researcher specialising in the research and development of building and construction materials and methods. Mapiravana’s research interests include geopolymers, structural fibre reinforced composites, high-performance cement and concrete and innovative building technologies. He received the Frank Holland Memorial bursary and prize for the best Master’s student at the School of Materials at the University of Sheffield in the UK.
