Dr Michelle Audouin
Dr Audouin’s research interests lie in the spheres of sustainability science, environmental management and the green economy. She particularly enjoys integrating the knowledge and views from a variety of stakeholders as well as academic disciplines to develop sustainability frameworks and strategies that inform government and private sector decision-making.

Since joining the CSIR in 1998, her research has focused on several spheres, including sustainability science, environmental management and the green economy in South Africa. She has been the lead author and co-author of guideline documents on Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA), and co-presented courses on the topic in South Africa and various African countries such as Tanzania, Ethiopia and Uganda.
Michelle has a keen interest in developing and applying “sustainability science” concepts such as complexity, resilience and transdisciplinarity to consulting and research projects. She has worked on various projects, including developing a guide on integrating resilience principles into infrastructure planning and assessment in Africa for the international Guidance for Resilience in the Anthropocene: Investments for Development programme (GRAID).
One of the roles that Michelle especially enjoys involves facilitating multi-stakeholder workshops and meetings.
