Personal Growth and Development

At the CSIR, we believe that a meaningful career is one where we feel an authentic connection between the work that we do and the broader life purpose beyond self. Therefore, we recognise that our multidisciplinary nature provides a kaleidoscope of opportunities and careers that allow established and emerging researchers, scientists, engineers, accountants, lawyers and other professionals to call the CSIR home. We are committed to the development of our people and building the capacity of relevant skills to deliver on our mandate.

We offer sizeable opportunities for learning through courses that are offered internally and externally. We provide opportunities for the nurturing and advancement of our employees’ careers through challenging projects, collaboration, networking, stakeholder engagement and structured programmes. Our organisation is continuously evolving; therefore, we invest in the development of young talent into future leadership roles through knowledge and skills transfer, thereby ensuring the future continuity and sustainability of our organisation.

Examples that reflect our personal growth and development benefits

  • Leadership and Management Development Programme

We have developed a leadership and management development programme (LMDP) to guide the development of leadership and management capabilities across the different tiers of leadership from junior to top management level. The LMDP focuses on transitional roles, which include managers who need to prepare for the next management levels. This programme also focuses on in-role programmes for managers who need to be upskilled within their current jobs.

  • LinkedIn Learning

We continue to invest in learning and development through upskilling and reskilling. We are also an organisation that proudly embraces technological shifts. As such, we have partnered with LinkedIn, a global professional networking and career development platform, to offer our employees a range of courseware across different disciplines and occupational levels within the organisation.

  • Career Ladders

The ladders allow for a dynamic and flexible approach to be followed in recognising and rewarding professionals, where the type/level of work performed depends on individual experience, qualifications, as well as training and competence levels.
